Swindon New College

Keep Swindon Tidy

2023

We're currently working with Swindon New College students on a campaign to clean up both campuses, raise awareness of issues of pollution, and encourage consideration for disposal of waste.

Freshers Fairs

October 2022 and 2023

These events are a great opportunity to engage with students and staff. At the 2023 event, the college were giving away free reuseable water bottles which made our job much easier!

Health and Well-being event

21st -24th March 2022

Stall at Swindon New College

We held a stall at this brilliant educational event, alongside other organisations concerned with students' health and well-being. It was a good opportunity to engage with students and staff, raise awareness of campaigns and issues, and learn a great deal.

Swindon College litter pick

5th March 2022

We organised a litter pick with Swindon New College as part of the Keep Swindon Tidy campaign. 3 groups of students who work and study in the Animal Care centre worked their way around the college grounds. Their remit was to take pictures of litter and evaluate the potential harm that it could cause.

The litter pick was also attended by members of the local RSPCA and Central North Swindon Parish Council. The 3 organisations attending had a chance to speak with students about the problems of littering from environmental, animal welfare, and local council perspectives. It is hoped that such education and positive activities can reduce littering and pollution.

Prizes were awarded for the most rubbish collected and for the strangest item found. For the latter, we found a 12 foot length of piping, a key, several used condoms, a bag of clothes, and many other random items. However a fire extinguisher won the prize.

Thanks to Swindon College, RSPCA North Wiltshire and Newbury, Central North Swindon Parish Council, and South Swindon Parish Council for making this day possible.
