Keep Swindon Tidy
Love where you live!
Updated 22nd January 2022
In order to deal with litter / pollution, minimise environmental impacts, and clean up our town, we all need to do our bit and work together. Let's get our collective mojo working!
- Major problems include rubbish being dumped out of vehicles, takeaway food and drink packaging, masks, gloves, and dog poo bags. Please use bins provided. If there are no bins, please take rubbish and recycling home. Please note that dog poo bags can also be put into general public bins.
- Cigarettes are highly polluting. Please put extinguished cigarettes in bins or pouches.
- Materials such as most plastics are toxic and don't naturally break down. So it's important to choose natural, compostable and reusable options.
- Instead of flytipping / dumping, ensure items are reused (eg charity shops), recycled or appropriately disposed of. Flytipping can be reported here.
- Items left out for others are not always taken and become litter / flytpping. Ensure that items left out for others have been taken. If not, then charity shops may take items or they can be passed on via an online site such as Freecycle.
- It used to be common to look after the area around our homes and businesses. Let's set a good example for others to follow.
Fines
- People caught littering are fined £150.
- Small-scale flytipping reaps a £400 Fixed Penalty Notice.
- Larger-scale flytipping earns a fine and prosecution.
