Refill Swindon - Treasures From Our Trash
The 19th June 2019 was National Refill Day. Refill Swindon invited our community to participate in a photography competition, celebrating our efforts in the campaign against reducing single-use plastic waste. This competition aimed to encourage creative perspectives to bring to attention the growing waste problems and behaviours that encourage it in Swindon.
The theme was “Treasures From our Trash”, with all perspectives welcomed. Photographs were to be taken in and around Swindon and given a title. We asked to see photos reflecting views on plastic and other waste pollution; problems and solutions; the relationship between waste, humans, animals and vegetation; maybe even the beauty in turning the challenges of waste and plastic into opportunities.
The winning photo was titled, 'Refill For The Future'. It was chosen as the winner because of its message in spreading great examples of how we can minimise our plastic use by making small and simple changes to how we live! The photograph was chosen as the winner by Ben Watkins because of its message in spreading great examples of how we can minimise our plastic use by making small and simple changes to how we live! It now represents the town on the Refill HQ website. Prizes included a plastic-free hamper donated by Swindon Pulse Wholefoods, reuseable water bottles and cups.
Thanks to all those who entered the competition, thanks to Ben Watkins for judging the competition, and thanks to Swindon Pulse Wholefoods for providing the first prize.
