A 1969 study for Coca Cola showed that returnable glass bottles had a lower environmental impact than plastic bottles, yet Coca Cola moved to plastic bottles anyway. Coca Cola have recently lobbied against measures that would reduce plastic pollution.    We can reduce this pollution by buying drinks in aluminium cans and glass bottles rather than plastic bottles, and by using a reusable water bottle. A Deposit Return Scheme would help greatly reduce plastic production but we are still waiting for the government to put one in place.
