Nude Foods

We decided to set up a zero waste food co-operative at a campaign meeting in October 2018.

Lesley Chandler led the initiative, supported by others passionate about zero waste and plastic pollution. Nude Foods was launched 6 months later on the 17th of April 2019 in The Core in Old Town as a Community Benefit Society to serve the people of Swindon. The launch was covered in this Swindon Advertiser article.

Nude Foods was open 6 days a week. It sold mainly organic dried food such as cereals, beans, pulses, lentils and rice. Starting with 43 products, it quickly expanded to include more. Volunteers served the people of Old Town and further afield, sharing their knowledge and passion for zero waste and healthy food. Both businesses complimented each other nicely, concerned with health and well-being.

Sadly Nude Foods stopped trading in January 2020. For now, Swindon is lucky to have Swindon Pulse Wholefoods, local organic farms, the farmer's market and shops selling loose (local) produce. But we need to do much better as a town. Zero waste is our target for Swindon.
