Canal path transformation

12th June 2021

It is clear from our litter picking activities that areas which look like rubbish are often treated as such. So how about the converse?

One of the areas that we regularly litter pick is the old canal path in town. Recently there has been a noticable decline in litter there. We think that one of the contributory factors has been two recent community growing projects on the canal path by Jess Halsall, farm lead of Uplands Enterprise Trust, with support from South Swindon Parish Council. See this blog by local councillor Linda Kasmaty for further info on both projects.

The images below are of the second project, growing runner beans and courgettes which people are welcome to water, pick and eat.

Lovely to see this space being transformed and local people getting involved. Thanks to Jess Halsall, Linda Kasmaty and Central South Swindon Parish Council.
