Growing South Swindon Community

The organisation's key aims are to improve shared spaces in south Swindon and enhance community. It was conceived through collaboration along the canal path and at Cambria Bridge to improve the area: litter picking, community gardening and various enhancements. Growing South Swindon Community was unveiled on the 26th March 2022 at an event held at Twigs, organised by South Swindon Parish Council.
The first event by the organisation took place on Thursday 14th April 2022 at Cambria Bridge, planting flowers in the new beds provided by South Swindon Parish Council.
Plastic Free Swindon are pleased to be involved with this new organisation, as it can help us achieve key aims. For example:
- Growing local food reduces the need for (plastic) packaging and transport. Vehicles are a major driver of plastic production, accounting for 9.6% of demand in Europe in 2019. Tyres are a major source of plastic pollution, for instance.
- Nice looking areas are treated in kind and littered less.
Events will be at 10am on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, except for May where it is the 1st and 3rd. If you'd like to get involved, please come along and / or get in touch. For Facebook users, events and info will go out via the Swindon in Bloom page.
