Windows 10 end of life

Windows 10 is now at the end of life. There's a guide to options for Windows 10 users here.

Windows 11 nightmare

Microsoft encouraged Windows 10 users to put old computers into landfill and to buy new computers running Windows 11. To run Windows 11, computers need TPM2 chips, which compromise privacy, restrict what we can do on our devices, and may endanger civil liberties. For further info, see this video explaining the dangers of Windows 11 and TPM2 chips by cyber-security expert Rob Braxman.

Linux support events

Thankfully there is an alternative free operating system called Linux (aka GNU / Linux) which reduces waste by prolonging the life of devices, is private and secure, which empowers users. We are helping people to make the transition from Windows to Linux, hosting free drop-in events.

  • Daytime events are hosted by Help Me IT at the Swindon Hub Tuesdays and Thursdays 2-5pm and Fridays 10am-1pm.
  • Evening events will be held in and around the town centre. Contact us if you would like to be informed of events.

Events are hosted by Voluntary Action Swindon and Help Me IT as part of the Get Connected Swindon network.
